The Energy Education Station |

|
New Horizons Academy plans to construct a green campus that will be solar-powered with an emphasis on education and demonstration-- The Energy Education Station. This commitment to education started from the first meeting of the Green Building Project’s Building Committee. Each and every step of the way, from design to construction, NHA will share information on this website about the project and its energy and environmentally-responsible features.
The mission of NHA’s Energy Education Station is to promote an energy conscious and educated southern Nevada by constructing our new green campus as a “living, learning laboratory” an energy and environmental demonstration for students, educators, business, government and community leaders.
Once NHA’s 35,000 sf green building is in operation (Summer 2009), the entire building will be filled with sensors, monitors and meters to control and measure the buildings water and energy savings and energy production. This website will show live data on a 24 hour basis as to the building’s performance, to include: |
| |
- Real time monitoring and display of the energy being produced by the photovoltaic
(PV)/Solar Power
- Real time monitoring and display of the building’s energy usage and a graph showing
the actual energy savings
- Real time monitoring and display of the building’s water conservation
|
| An additional educational resource is a touch screen computer that will be installed in the green building’s reception area. This plasma touch screen will be web-based so that all of the information on the building’s performance and systems that is downloaded to this website will also be downloaded to the touch screen. |
